Limited authority to teach list
Tūranga Whakaako Whai-herenga | Limited Authority to Teach list
This online list shows all individuals who hold a Limited Authority to Teach (LAT).
Only those with a current practising certificate or LAT from the Council can be employed in teaching positions in schools, kura, kindergartens and most positions in early childhood education settings. A Limited Authority to Teach enables individuals without a teaching qualification to teach in positions where specialist skills are in short supply, but which are not permanent roles. A LAT is not a type of practising certificate and it is not intended for registered teachers.
An approval letter will be sent to the teacher which will provide a LAT authorisation number for the employer. This authorisation number can be used to search the LAT register.
- The list provides real-time data.
- A police vet is required.
