Limited authority to teach list

This online list shows all individuals who hold a Limited Authority (LAT) to Teach.

Only those with a current Practising Certificate or LAT from the Council can be employed in teaching positions in schools, kura, kindergartens and most positions in early childhood education settings. This authorisation to teach enables people without a teaching qualification to teach in positions specialist skills are in short supply, but which are not permanent roles. A LAT is not a type of practising certificate and it is not intended for registered teachers.

Approval will be sent to the teacher which will provide a LAT authorisation number for the employer. This authorisation number can be used to search the LAT register.

Please note:

  • The list provides real-time data.
  • A police vet is required.
