Schedule 20(6)(b) of the Education Act 1989
Schedule 20(6)(b) of the Education Act 1989 affects some teachers who held a current practising certificate when the Teachers Council transitioned to the Education Council on 1 July 2015.
The Education Act 1989 (as amended by the Education Amendment Act 2015) requires the Education Council to establish new standards and criteria for practising certificates within 24 months of the Education Council's commencement. This means that all practising certificates automatically carried over from the Teachers Council on 1 July 2015 will expire on or before 1 July 2017.
How might this affect you?
If you hold a practising certificate that was granted by the Teachers Council and it is due to expire before 1 July 2017, you will need to renew your practising certificate as normal when it expires.
If you hold a practising certificate that was granted by the Teachers Council between 1 July 2014 and 30 June 2015 it will expire early, on 1 July 2017. If you are affected by this change we will be contacting you personally advising you about how to apply for the interim PC. You do not have to do anything until we contact you in February.
