Learning exchange with Australian educators

In late September, the Teaching Council hosted a group of teachers and professional leaders from Social Ventures Australia. SVA is a not-for-profit organisation that works with schools in Australia through the ‘Bright Spots Connection’ programme which provides support and development to high-performing but disadvantaged schools to improve learner outcomes. It then helps spread those learnings across the education system.

As part of the learning exchange we visited a range of centres, schools and education agencies around Aotearoa New Zealand to listen and share learning around several themes including:

  • Te Tiriti o Waitangi and bi-cultural practice
  • Cultural competenices and curriculum design
  • The future of assessment
  • Learner agency and the role of meta-cognition

Our sincere thanks to the inspiring teachers and professional leaders of Wellington East Girls College, Porirua College, The Park Early Learning Centre, Nōku te Ao, West Rolleston School, Hagley College, Hagley Preschool, Stonefields School and Ormistion Junior College for their generous participation in the learning exchange. The shared dialogue and learning will enrich our collective practice and the connections established will enable us to share best practice in an ongoing way.
