Currently, our Governing Council comprises 13 members. Seven members are elected by the profession (a teacher and a professional leader from the ECE sector, a teacher and a principal from the primary sector, a teacher and a principal from the secondary sector, and a registered teacher from the initial teacher education or continuing teacher education sector) and six are appointed by the Minister of Education. Governing Council members are responsible for ensuring our legislative functions are carried out effectively and efficiently and in the interests of the profession and the public. Our Council is supported by various committees and disciplinary bodies.
The inaugural election was held in March 2019 and the new Governing Council took office on 1 July 2019.

Our Governing Council is supported by an organisation of about 100 employees led by a chief executive, working to implement our functions and strategic direction across five main areas: customer service, professional services, registration, professional responsibility, and council services and operations.
